you’re a
temperamental bitch
that moans when I go.
You compare
alcohol
to happiness.
You creep
from throats
& bones
like some
hungry monster.
But Poetry,
language
was invented
for you.
You awoke
a rhythm
between my
fingertips
that still
taunts
me.
You’re either a
vital organ,
or blood.
However, Poetry,
are you cheaper
than the women
in the empty spaces
of my life-
or the secrets
I write
between my thighs?
Poetry,
I am Fifty Shades
of girl.
Why should I feed you?
Do you know
what to do
with my body
when you are merely
ink stained fingers
soaked in passing
& the fevers
conjured
within burning stars?
I didn’t think

i.Pearly wisps and smoky vapor
Tea leaves, chipped like shredded paper

joined up in a scarlet caper)

Those mountain peaks there
A billion running steps
Away, seem all the
Same to me: a monotone
Sound wave draping dappled sky.

Here it rains
a chilly rain
(a perpetual nuclear winter-storm
of vapor tears and thunder songs)
Here echo dreams of utter death
the silent spectral symphonies
ingrained ink and starry breath
all blind and specious euphonies
Here is where it rains.

At the source of the river
Was a single forgotten seed

I saw Jesus and Buddha yesterday
They were sitting down to a bite to eat
In the middle of town
Watching the yellow leaves fall
With a strange sort of resistance
That made it seem like they’d really prefer to stay in the trees
As opposed to being trampled on
By the small and fashionable dogs
That fill this town like rats
Yes
Now I remember
They were at the Wooden Nickle
Sitting
And chatting
And just enjoying the autumn sun
They talked about the season premiere
The ball game
The news
It never occurred to me
That deities
Had cable
But apparently they do
And enjoy it very much
Jesus set down his pint
Watching
As two amber tears fell
She never meant for this to happen
You could see it in her face
As she gazed over the cliff
To the sea below
Where wood scraped against the shore
She had only wanted to sing
There were tears in her cornflower eyes
She hadn't seen the ship
When the song began
And it wasn't until she heard its hull
Shatter upon the rocks
Did she notice
All those sailors
All those husbands and fathers cast away
The siren wept
"Beer is proof that God loves us
And wants us to be happy"
I'm not sure that this is true
But if it is
I suppose I have seen my first Guardian Angel
It was raining
A cold
Unpleasant shower
That reminded me of cold soup
others fled to shops and restaurants
But not him
He pushed through the puddles
Ran through the rain
Short sleeved
And gripping a dolly
That held a box of precious German brew
I could see the determination in his eyes
As he tore through the street
This was his task!
-No-
His purpose!
I'm glad that God loves us
And wants us to be happy
Because he sure doesn't care about his staff
This irritates me
I just thought you should know
Everything seems everything is faded
And no matter how many times I tell you
You refuse to buckle down and give it a sunshine gloss
And a moonlight lacquer
It stood along the shore
Hiding behind the boardwalk and midway
As if it were afraid
Of the teenagers
But fascinated by the children
Enticing it to creep down to earth
But not before scooping clouds from the sky
As gifts
To all the boys and girls
To throw into the sea
Or sprinkle
Onto ice cream cones

Another Soul Touched by Clarisse McClellan
She walked through the forest a lot
I think that's what I remember most about her
Bare feet
Eyes wide
And lips ever so slightly pursed
It wasn't as if she were silent
Far from it
Leaves were always crunching beneath her
Sometimes she would talk to herself
Sometimes she would cry
I always seemed to find her
In the corner of my vision
I thought nothing of it at first
But slowly
I began to love her
In a curious
Fatherly way
If she laughed
I smiled
If she cried
I felt sick
Each day I sought her out
But never once spoke to her
I didn't think I needed to
Then one day
She was gone
Just gone
It unsettled me
So I watched the window nervously
