One Day's Flight: Ch. 2

~ 2 ~

Awake. This time she could move. Jade sat up straight and did a little dance in the bed to loosen up. She studied her surroundings and noticed the door just as it slid open. She jumped out of bed - and promptly fell over. What was this? Something heavy was on her back. What had they put there? Her arms reached around and felt through the hospital gown she was wearing. “Ahhh!” She screamed, and the things on her back reacted. Two beautiful, not to mention huge, wings shot out on both sides of her. She fell to the floor again, and stared at the wings as they slowly moved around her.

She stared in shock, and then the door slid open silently. There he was, the man from before, looking slightly worried. “Are you ok? You were not supposed to get up so soon.” He reached out to help her up, but she scrambled back away from him. The wings - her wings followed her and instinctively curled around her as she wrapped her arms around her knees.  “Stay away from me! What happened to me? Why do I have these..” She trailed off as she looked at the wings again, noticing for the first time what they actually looked like. Two wings, approximately 9 feet long each, each one more than twice as tall as her, and each a deep brown color with tan freckles spread all over them.

He looked at them too and grinned, “This is what you wanted! You agreed to let us give you wings. Granted, it was an experiment to see if it would work, but you knew that and you agreed to it. See, here is the paper you signed agreeing to it.” He held out a paper, Jade peeked out from behind the curtain of feathers surrounding her and then slowly stood up. Her new wings folding onto her back again, she took paper with her signature on it. She started to remember, and started to smile, but a thought crossed her mind. “Wait, how do I learn to use them?”
